Will Satan at the end of the world be forgiven by God?

Will Satan be forgiven by God?

At the end of time, Satan will not get forgiveness from God; instead, Revelation 20:10 states that he will be cast “into the lake of burning sulfur… [He] will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

God declared that everything in the earth was “good” (Genesis 1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25), and eventually “very good” (Genesis 1:31) when it was formed. That period’s angelic realm was likewise good and devoid of wickedness. But into this very good creation entered the devil, Satan, and sin (see this article for an explanation of where sin came from). There had presumably been a rebellion in the heavenly realms between Genesis 1:31 and the events of Genesis 3, with many angels turning bad (basically rebelling against God and not desiring to serve or worship him as God). So, albeit not exactly as he is now, God did create Satan.

Judgment of every person

But that doesn’t mean that this will stop him from being destroyed in the end. Jesus [will judge the entire earth] when He returns. Revelation 20:10 describes the judgment of Satan, as we have already seen. Revelation 20:11–14, the next passages in the same chapter, however, describe the judgment of all people who have ever lived:

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Everyone will stand before the throne of God. Another term for the lake of flaming sulfur is the “fire,” and anyone whose name is not found in the book of life will be thrown into it. All those who defy God’s righteous government will be judged in this manner.

To be exempt from this judgment is to have your name entered into the book of life. All those who have turned from their rebellion towards God and trusted in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their rebellion (sins) and now desire to submit and obey the Lord Jesus Christ are listed in this book as those whom God has selected to be his.
