Why did Jesus say He is the way, the truth and the life?

Jesus is more than just a significant prophet or spiritual guide. He is so much more than just a teacher and a prophet, though He does both. More than you ever would have thought or imagined… “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” declares Jesus. John 14:6.

Jesus Christ is the way

Jesus does not just show us the way to true life. He is the way to true life Himself. That’s what Jesus is saying here. He adds: “No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6, compare 1 John 5:11-12). Jesus is not implying that He is one of the many ways to God. No, He says He is the only way to God the Father and without Him we will not enter into heaven. The Bible states that we all are like lost sheep, wandering in our own ways. (Isaiah 53:6) and that we are “dead in our sins” (Ephesians 2:1). Jesus, God’s Son, has been sent to this earth to save us from our sins and sinful nature. Jesus says: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). Do you believe in Jesus as your Savior? Don’t trust your own ways or the ways of other teachers, but trust Him, the “living way” (Hebrews 10:19-20), unto eternal life.

Jesus Christ is the truth

Jesus does not just give us beautiful truth and life lessons. In fact, He stands out among other teachers in world religions, philosophies and popular books in one ultimate way: He Himself is the truth: “I am the truth” (John 14:6). Notice the singular: Jesus is clearly saying He is the only truth. We can see this in what He says and does. This should be the supreme motivating force behind our life: Jesus is the only God-given truth in this world full of darkness. Yes, Jesus and nothing or no one else must be the purpose of this world and your life. “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created” (Colossians 1:15-16). You as well were created by Him!

Jesus Christ is the life

He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12). Jesus says of the people who believe in Him: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10) and “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11: 25-26). Jesus has conquered death because He rose from the dead for us, sinful people. If you believe in Him, you will live with Him forever in the house of the Father (2 Corinthians 5:8). When Jesus returns to this world, you will be risen from the dead by Him (1 Corinthians 15:20-30).

Your only way, truth and life

According to John 14:6, we now know that Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life. Do you still live your own life, establishing your own truths, and adopting your own ways, or do you think this? “Awaken, slumbering one, for Christ will shine upon you when you rise from the grave.” (Ephesians 5:14)
