Why did God create the earth?

Why did God create the earth?

Why did God make the world and everything on it? To put it briefly, He did it for His own honor. Let’s go over a few paragraphs that illustrate this:

  • “For He created everything, both visible and invisible, in heaven and on earth, including thrones, powers, rulers, and authorities; everything was made by Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16).
  • For everything comes from, goes through, and ends up in Him. Amen. To Him be the praise forever! (Romans 11:36).

God intends for everything to happen according to the counsel of His will from all eternity. Everything exists for God and is kept together by God. The entire planet is His. He is us. Furthermore, everything that exists was made with the intention of pointing to God and His glory. According to Psalm 19:1, “The Heavens declare the glory of God.” God has shown His invisible qualities to us through creation (Romans 1:20).

Furthermore, people help God accomplish His goal of exalting Himself. Living a life that exalts Him is our mandate (Matthew 5:16; 1 Peter 2:12). When we accept Christ as our Savior, we become heirs to God’s splendor. Through ongoing sanctification, the Holy Spirit [makes us into the likeness of Jesus] (Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 3:18). We give God the honor and bear witness to His majesty on earth as we go from glory to splendor. The primary goal of humanity, according to certain men who have written in the past, is to exalt God and enjoy Him forever.

Did God create us because He was lonely or wanted to be worshiped?

God created us out of His good pleasure. Though many would say that God created us for fellowship, for worship, or for other reasons, the Bible does not explicitly tell us why God created us beyond for His own glory. We do know that God was not lonely. We see multiple times in Scripture that God was perfectly delighting in Himself. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were in glory from eternity past and were delighting in each other’s presence. At Jesus’ baptism, we see a reference to the Father’s delight in His Son, with whom He is well pleased. When Jesus prays to the Father in John 17, He references the time He spent with the Father before the world began. Jesus was at the Father’s side, just as He is now.

God does not require our adoration, despite the fact that He is envious of our splendor and constantly commands us not to worship any other deity. Nothing is required of God by us. Nevertheless, God is a kind and merciful God. He wants to live among us. God was walking with us in the Garden of Eden. God provided detailed directions for building the tabernacle in Exodus so that He might [live among His people]. God became a tent-maker alongside us by assuming human form (John 1:14; 1:17).

God is worthy to receive our honor

Earth and humanity are not necessary for God. However, He made something good because He desired to create them. As a result, God’s children might worship with the 24 elders in the book of Revelation:

“You are deserving of all glory, honor, and power, our Lord and God, for it was through your will that all things came into existence and were made.” (Revelation 4:11)
