What is the great commission of believers?

great-commission

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you,” was the last directive given by Jesus to His followers (Matthew 28:19–20a). He reiterates this instruction in Mark 16:15, saying, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”

The great commission is for every Christian

We are commanded by Jesus to go to every nation. This directive has some responsibility. This is the collective responsibility of all of His followers. We have a lot of resources at our disposal, and the more we have, the more God will expect of us since, as Luke 12:48 states, “Everyone to whom much was given, of Him much will be required, and from Him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”

The progress of the great commission

According to Acts 1:8, Jesus commanded us to spread the gospel to every corner of the globe. An group called the Joshua Project assesses how far the gospel has already been preached in various countries. Furthermore, it seems that over 41% of the world’s population has not yet been reached. What a daunting undertaking lies ahead of us, especially in light of the requirement that the redeemed people include at least one representative from each demographic category (Revelation 5:9).

Internet creates new possibilities for evangelism

The Gospel is currently being spread hundreds of hours a day via our electronic highways and reaching places where missionaries are neither permitted nor able to go. According to Matthew 24:14, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come,” the gospel’s proclamation may be distinguished by the Lord’s unexpected return.

What is our part in the great commission?

Which unreached people groups then might you individually and as a church community try to reach? Let us take action by meeting the challenge that God has set before us and reacting suitably to His request that we obey His last and grand commission.

The Holy Spirit will lead us

The Holy Spirit will reveal to the church as a whole and to each of us personally how and where we might become involved and assist if this desire is kindled in us. It is possible that we are aware of the great promise that Jesus offers with his command: “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).

Be available for the great commission

The requirement is to stand as a disciple in the proper relationship to the Sender in order to obey the duty to teach all nations and make them disciples. Additionally, to give yourself over to the Holy Spirit’s leadership, who is devoted to God’s Word, and to make yourself completely available.

“You have commanded us to send out workers in Your harvest,” may this be the prayer we offer. I volunteer to labor for You, and I’m available to You at all times. Send me forth as Your laborer in Your harvest, if that is what You desire given my circumstances and abilities. Praise be to Jesus, Amen.
