What is the difference between Jewish Pesach (Passover) and Christian Easter?

Understanding Passover

While both religious celebrations occur in the spring at roughly the same time, there aren’t many real parallels between Passover and Easter. For Jews, Passover, or Pesach, is a time to remember and celebrate together the day that God freed the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. A large portion of the festivities, like as the Passover Seder dinner, are closely associated with the Exodus story. God vowed to “pass over” the homes of those who painted the blood of a sacrificial lamb on their doorframes before He destroyed all of Egypt’s firstborn. You can find this historical narrative in Exodus 12.

A better Lamb

Easter is the celebration of the death of a different and better lamb — Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. Easter Sunday is when Christians formally celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. However, the good news that Jesus is alive is a truth that every Christian celebrates daily. Furthermore, Christians celebrate a different kind of Exodus. Instead of remembering our liberation from the slavery of Egypt, we celebrate the liberation from the bondage of our own sin through the sacrificial death of Christ. Romans 5:9 says “Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.” Anyone who places their faith in Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice for their sins will not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

Freedom for all

We ought to offer prayers for our Jewish friends to discover the genuine freedom and hope found in Jesus. Hebrews 3:3 says that Jesus is the greater and superior Moses. Moses assisted in guiding the Israelites out of Egypt, yet he was powerless to stop them from complaining and disobeying God (Hebrews 3:16–17). A person’s heart can only be changed by Jesus; has He altered yours yet? If so, have a happy celebration today, my sibling. If not, Hebrews 3:7 says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” He desires to release you!
