What is salvation?

what is salvation?

A crucial concept in the Bible is salvation. To put it briefly, it is the opposite of sin. People can be delivered from the guilt and destructive force of sin by virtue of Jesus’ atoning death.

Why do we need salvation?

We, as humans, have a serious issue. Due to our sin, we [face] physical and eventual everlasting death, as well as damaged hearts and minds. “For death is the price of sin” (Romans 6:23). To address these issues, [salvation is necessary].

People have attempted to better themselves and earn their own salvation throughout history. While some made an effort to live by stringent rules, others atoned for their sins by fasting or going on pilgrimages. However, it is all for nothing, for no one can redeem themselves (Romans 3:20). God’s righteousness cannot be attained on our own terms. We require a Savior.

Who can save us?

God loved the world so much that, in order to save it, God the Son took on human form (John 12:47). Despite being sinless Himself, He took on the sins of humanity (Romans 5:21). He endured hardship and [died in lieu of them]. We can be reconciled to God for our sins by His death (Hebrews 9:15). He is therefore appropriately referred to as “our Savior Christ Jesus” (see, for instance, 2 Timothy 1:10).

How can we be saved?

According to Romans 3:24 and Ephesians 2:8, everybody who trusts in Jesus Christ is justified by his grace as a gift. “Everyone will be saved who calls on the name of the Lord.” (Romans 10:13). Nothing of our own good works or assumed righteousness is required. Being saved is not a difficult procedure; rather, it requires faith in Jesus Christ and an admission of our own helplessness.

What does it mean to be saved?

Salvation means that the guilt of believers is paid for by Jesus, and thus forgiven. But it means more. Salvation is about a new life, about freedom from the power of sin (2 Peter 2:9), and about a renewed relationship with God. Believers are no longer slaves of Satan, but children of God. This leads to sanctification, which means to resemble God’s goodness more and more – and thus to resemble satan’s wickedness less and less. Read for example Ephesians 2:4-7, where Paul bursts out: “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved – and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness towards us in Christ Jesus”.

Creation itself will be saved

Salvation is about the future (about [living in God’s presence forever] on the new planet He will establish) as well as our current state (about being right with God again, freed from sin) (see also Romans 6:23). Because in the end, according to Romans 8:21, “death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore,” and the creation itself will be freed from its bondage to corruption (Revelation 21:4).
