What happened to Moses before he died?

How did Moses die?

The story of Moses’ passing is found in Deuteronomy 34. Because Joshua and Aaron disobeyed the Lord by not honoring Him in front of the people at Kadesh, they were barred from entering the Promised Land (Numbers 20:7–13). Aaron passed away shortly after this. The same chapter has a mention of his death: God commanded Eleazar and Moses to ascend Mount Hor. After taking off his priestly robes, Eleazar, Aaron’s son, put them on. Then, in front of Eleazar and Moses, Aaron passed away.

Moses’ death appears to be comparable, albeit occurring many years apart. Moses’s task is complete, and the Israelites are prepared to enter the promised land of Canaan. When he ascends Mount Nebo, God gives him a clear view of the entire region that Israel is about to conquer. Following that, the Bible says plainly that he passed away and was buried by the Lord (Deuteronomy 34:5–6). We can presume that, unlike Elijah, who was carried into heaven in a chariot of fire, he truly did die and be buried, even though no one is aware of the location of his grave (2 Kings 2:9–12).
