El Shaddai revealed to Abraham
In Genesis 17:1, the Lord identified Himself to Abraham as “El Shaddai.” El is the name for God. It’s unclear what “Shaddai” means literally. The best way to interpret it is as “almighty,” as people have presumed since very early times. As a result, “El Shaddai” is rendered as “God Almighty” in the majority of Bible translations.
This was most likely the name his family gave the Lord after the Lord revealed Himself to Abraham as God Almighty.El Shaddai is also used by Isaac (Genesis 28:3). When Jacob leaves the land of Canaan, God once more reveals Himself to him as El Shaddai (Genesis 35:11).
The Lord demonstrates to them His true nature as the All-Powerful God. When it was no longer humanly possible, He gave Abraham a son. During his wanderings, God guided him and his offspring. He turned the impoverished refugee Jacob into a wealthy man. In Egypt, where his son Joseph rose to become the second man in the kingdom, he secured the safety of Jacob’s family.
Throughout Israel’s and the church’s history, the Lord has often demonstrated His deity. There is nothing too hard for Him. He brought His people through the desert and fed them with heavenly bread for forty years. He addressed His prophets, and [His predictions came to pass]. At His command, people received healings and even experienced resurrections.
El Shaddai in human form
At last, the Almighty God took human form and arrived on Earth. Jesus Christ was the birth of God the Son. And in Him we witness the manifestation of God’s omnipotence. When he spoke, devils ran away. Thousands were fed when he broke off a few pieces of bread. He chastised the winds, and the storm subsided. The blind experienced light when Jesus touched their eyes. Every person He came into contact with had a heart that He knew about. We witnessed the meaning of “El Shaddai.”
The most exquisite aspect of recognizing El Shaddai in Jesus Christ is the profound love that God has for sinners. Indeed, Jesus is supreme. However, [He consented to be crucified] in order for us to be absolved of our sins. His love surpasses all human love in depth. There is no power on earth like his. He is El Shaddai to us. He gives us eternal life through His omnipotent and compassionate hands.
