Saints are called to endure

“Those who uphold God’s commands and have faith in Jesus are called to be the saints; they must persevere.” (Rev. 14:12)

Being a saint is not always an easy feat. Fighting against sin is a tiring endeavor. It might be disheartening to encounter resistance and animosity from those around us. Although we eagerly await Jesus’ return, it takes a very long time.

The apostle Paul states that the time has come for him to go from this life in his second epistolary letter to Timothy. He likens this life on Earth to an almost-completed race. Though it was difficult, he persevered in his faith, and as a result, he will soon win “the crown of righteousness,” which is the reward that is waiting for him (2 Timothy 4:8). His story serves as inspiration for others: never give up! Hold fast to your faith!

How did Paul manage to get through all of the challenges he encountered? How did he manage to complete his “race”? not in his own might, but in the might of God. He asks his readers to undergo the same experience in Colossians 1:9–11. In order to suffer with joy and patience, he prays that they would be fortified by heavenly force. Because of God’s power, we are capable of everything.

Do you find it hard to endure?
