Mission is a task of the whole church

Letters of Peter

“And when the seemingly infallible James, Cephas, and John saw the grace bestowed upon me, they extended to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, directing us to reach out to the Gentiles while they went to the circumcised.” (Romans 2:9)

Paul was a missionary whose letters are included in the Bible and have made him well-known. However, his missions were not personal endeavors. He conferred with the apostles who were then in charge of the church before answering God’s call to preach the gospel to Gentiles, or non-Jews. Because mission is the responsibility of the church as a whole, not only of few people who are chosen by God.

In order to ensure that they proclaimed the same message everywhere, Paul and the other apostles determined that Paul and Barnabas would go to the Gentiles and the other apostles would evangelize Jews first (Galatians 2:2). It is quite acceptable to divide up missionary work based on the calling, abilities, or gifts of individual church members.

The apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and instructors were all given by God. (Ephesians 4:11). However, ultimately, it is the duty of every church member to contribute to the gospel’s proclamation and the church’s upkeep through financial contributions, acts of service, prayer, and the creation of useful resources. and so forth.

In what way could you assist with the mission? What role does your local church play?
