What does it mean that ‘God is love’?

God is love

The Bible states that “God is love” and provides evidence for this claim.

“Love is God.” God sent His one and only Son into the world so that we can live through Him as a sign of His love for us. Not because we loved God, but because He loved us and sent His Son to die on the cross in order to atone for our sins, that is love (1 John 4:8–10).

Unbreakable love

When faced with challenges or setbacks in life, we could be tempted to question whether [God truly cares for us]. However, the knowledge that [Jesus died on the cross in our place] gives us comfort. Whatever the circumstances of our lives may be, God has shown us His unwavering love forever!

According to Romans 5:8, “But God shows His own love for us in this: Christ died for us while we were still sinners.”

True love, according to Jesus, is demonstrated by costly, selfless deeds done for the benefit of others. He says, “No one has greater love than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). Even Christians can get perplexed by the events that God permits from time to time, but according to Hebrews 13:5, God assures us that He will never abandon us. According to John 3:16, He loved us so much that [He even sent His Son] to die in order for us to live. As a result, we may now rest assured of His unwavering love for us in every situation we may encounter (Romans 8:38–39).

God does not only love Christians

Love is God. If we really know Him, His love for others will come through in us. Since “God is love.” According to 1 John 4:16b, “whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.”

[Only by trust in Jesus can one be saved]Acts 4:12, John 14:6, and Romans 10:9. God’s love is not limited to Christians. He is love for all people (Psalm 145:9; John 3:16). In Matthew 5:45, God states that He “causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” According to 2 Peter 3:9, he “is patient, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

According to Acts 14:17, Jesus kindly gives “plenty of food and fills [their] hearts with joy.” True children of our Heavenly Father will not only love our earthly families and those who will love us back (Matthew 5:46–47), but we will also love our neighbors (Luke 10:25–37), just as God “is kind to the ungrateful and wicked” (Luke 6:35). Remembering that God generously loved us “when we were His enemies” (Romans 5:10), “dead in [our] transgressions and sins,” we shall even love those who hate and persecute us (Matthew 5:44; Ephesians 2:1).

God’s love is forever

God’s love is older and more reliable than the universe itself, as the doctrine of the Trinity serves as a reminder. God is three Persons who are linked in perfect love from eternity to eternity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (John 17:24). In order for us to eternally partake in this fellowship of divine love, the Son of God entered the earth in the form of a man 2,000 years ago (John 1:14) (John 17:26; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

What does the statement “God is love” mean? As He first loved us, let’s turn to Jesus and show one another love. The world will then witness the response to this question being played out in front of their eyes as we love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves (Luke 10:27) (John 13:34–35).
