Is there evidence for the existence of God?

Yes, most definitely. The problem is do you want to believe it or not? Paul says in Romans 1:20For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” The evidence of God’s existence that is closest to us all is ourselves. Our bodies and how they work and our minds — what they are capable of in thought, creativity and imagination. To believe in the theory of evolution with no designer or creator behind it, is to deny the greatest evidence that God has given us for His existence. Even the cheapest plastic toy had a designer and creator – why is it so hard to believe that the universe, the world and everything in it has a designer, creator and sustainer?

If we deny God’s existence

If we deny God’s existence it will have no effect on Him, but it will have a huge effect on us, with unimaginable dire consequences. In Romans 1:21-25 Paul writes “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

We are completely dependent upon Him

In Psalm 14:1 it says “the fool says in his heart there is no God“. We ignore the evidence that God has given us of His existence at our peril. For those who know God, it is impossible to deny His existence, we see Him at work in every part of our lives, we have a relationship and friendship with God and realize that we are completely dependent upon Him because every breath we breathe comes from Him. We all began our relationship with Him with one step of faith. Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see.” People often laugh at those of us who have faith in a God we cannot see, but how is that different from going out to catch a bus or a train. The timetable tells us it will arrive at a certain time and we trust it and act accordingly, and on the whole, we are not disappointed. God has given to us the Bible, if we read it, trust it and act upon it God will show Himself to us more and more and we will not be disappointed.
