I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end

“I am the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last.” (Rev. 22:13)

This final “I am” passage comes from the book of Revelation. That has to do with a vision that John had later in life, not with Jesus’ earthly life. He sees Jesus in this vision, and Jesus comforts him. On this planet, a lot is happening, and there will be more. When Christians attempt to live moral lives, they will encounter antagonism and challenges. It won’t be simple to stay devoted. However, Jesus declares in verse 12 that “behold, I am coming soon.”

After his resurrection, Jesus has departed from this world, yet the tale is not over. He is the everlasting God, existing before the creation of the world and existing eternally. His reign and his life are unending. He is everything.

If we are feeling intimidated and overpowered, that is encouraging. There is none other than God. Jesus will be present eternally, even though this planet and perhaps our earthly lives will die before then.

Are you waiting for Jesus’ return?
