It might be simpler to teach the Trinity in Sunday school than in seminary. Because the idea of a single God being in three people is a profound enigma to Christians. It is frequently easier for children to receive a secret than it is for highly educated people.
What the Trinity is not
It could be important, depending on your location, to clarify what the Trinity is not. The Trinity, according to many Muslims, consists of God the Father, Mary, and Jesus, the Son of God. This would imply that Mary is treated as a god by Christians, which is idolatry. This is a long-standing misconception. Mary was a unique woman who was selected to bear the enormous honor of giving birth to Jesus despite her lowly circumstances. She was not God, though.
Furthermore, the Trinity does not imply that Christians worship three deities. Christianity is a monotheistic faith that acknowledges only one God as the supreme being in charge of everything.
A secret
I believe that teaching kids that the Trinity is like a secret should come first. We can perceive a little of it, but the mystery of God is beyond the scope of human comprehension.
There are, nevertheless, several approaches you might take to elucidate. God the Father, for instance, was in charge of us as our creator. However, God came to live among us in Jesus. God the Father sent the Holy Spirit to be “God in us” when He went back to Him.
You might also explain that because of our numerous transgressions, God is holy and we are unfit to be His friends. The Holy Spirit is the one who works in our hearts to help us confess our sins and turn from them. And God the Son [who was the slaughtered Lamb] is the one who paid the payment for our sins. The Trinity functions in this way to restore humankind’s connection to God.
Some people also find it beneficial to equate God to water. Water can be vapor, liquid, or solid (ice). But it’s still water even though it doesn’t appear like it. God can also be one person and three at the same time. Once more, this is merely a partial explanation, but it might be useful to certain students.
Study the Bible
If the kids are older, it can be beneficial to study the Bible together and highlight important passages that support the Trinity view. Here is one example of a useful list.
There is no mathematical formula for the Trinity. However, the scriptures present this image of God. There could be no salvation apart from God the Son. We wouldn’t be able to recognize the truth if God hadn’t sent the Holy Spirit.
Finally, teaching the kids to recite 2 Corinthians 13:14 aloud after every gathering—which says, “May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all”—can be a healthy habit.
