God keeps watch

“Behold, the one who guards Israel will not sleep nor slumber.” Your right hand is shaded by the Lord. (Psalm 121:4-5)

In Psalm 121:3, the Lord is referred to as “He who keeps you” and “He who keeps Israel.” He is comparable to a personal guardian for Christians traveling through life as well as for the entire people of Israel, to whom He had pledged protection.

As Jesus’ hour of pain and death drew near, He forewarned His disciples. This would be a significant test for them as well, after all. “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation,” Jesus told them (Matthew 26:41). Many years later, the apostle Paul exhorted his readers in 1 Corinthians 16:13, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith.”

A soldier who nods off is at risk. The opponent can attack him with ease. In the same way, we may also be taken by surprise by a devilish attack if we are not alert. However, our Lord does not “fall asleep” even if our focus wavers and we do. He keeps us safe. He never sleeps and is constantly aware. What risks might endanger you if you’re not vigilant? The fact that the Lord God never slumbers or sleeps helps you in what way?
