Confidence to come before God in prayer

“Let us then confidently approach the throne of grace in order to find grace to assist us in our hour of need and to receive mercy.” (Revelation 4:16)

God Almighty is magnificent and pure. He is a vast distance above the human race. It is therefore quite special that we are able to communicate with Him and that He is open to hearing from us! But the Bible is replete with examples of just that.

For instance, Daniel’s and King Solomon’s prayers are described in the Old Testament. In the name of their people, they prayed. Even though they were well aware of God’s holiness, they prayed before His throne because they were in need of His assistance. In addition, the book of Psalms offers countless instances of both individual and group prayers in a variety of contexts.

The Lord Jesus exhorts us to communicate with and bring our needs before our heavenly Father. Additionally, 1 John 5:14 states, “And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” What a wonderful assurance! Our prayer may be marked by confidence as well as reverence since we are holy and righteous before God in Christ.

Do you focus on Who you are truly speaking to when you pray? For you, what does it mean to approach the throne of grace “with confidence”?
