A light to our path

Why do people love darkness more than light?

“Your word illuminates my path and serves as a lamp at my feet.” (Psalm 119:105)

God’s Word is great, King David declares in Psalm 119, using a variety of metaphors and expressions. He likens it to a light and a lamp in verse 105. To discover our path and prevent stumbles when going in the dark, we require a light. Similarly, we depend on God’s Word to illuminate our path and provide us with direction and wisdom.

In Psalm 32:8, God promises: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you”. The most important source of this godly instruction is the Bible. It teaches us so much about God’s will for humans. It helps us see the world around us for what it really is. It helps us discern what is in our hearts. Even the apostle Paul, who was a religious expert, says: ‘If it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”’ (Romans 7:7). Our minds are darkened by sin, and we need God’s Word to enlighten us.
