Many people associate “hope” with something both uncertain and hopeful. We can never be certain that our hopes will come true.
But the Bible tells us that there is a very sure and reliable source of hope, and that is God’s promises and character. To help you understand what the Bible says about “hope,” we have compiled ten quotes[1].
1. Psalm 147:11
“The Lord is pleased with those who fear Him and have faith in His unwavering love.”
2. Proverbs 23:17-18
“Keep walking all day in the dread of the Lord. There is undoubtedly a future, and your optimism won’t be dashed.
3. Lamentations 3:21-22
“Yet this is what I remember, and for that reason I am hopeful: The Lord’s unwavering love never ends, and His mercies never run out.”
4. Romans 5:3-5
The Holy Spirit, who has been given to us, has poured God’s love into our hearts, so we rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering leads to perseverance, which leads to character, which leads to hope, and hope does not degrade us.
5. Romans 12:12
“Be patient in times of adversity, rejoice in hope, and pray constantly.”
6. Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
7. 1 Thessalonians 5:8
“But since we are part of this day, let us act soberly, donning the hope of salvation as a helmet and the breastplate of faith and love.”
8. 1 Timothy 4:10
“…we have the living God, the Savior of everyone, especially believers, as our object of hope.”
9. Hebrews 11:1
“Belief now is the conviction of things unseen, the assurance of things hoped for.”
10. 1 Peter 1:3-4
“Glorified be the Father and God of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, He has, in accordance with His great compassion, caused us to be born again into a live hope and an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, stored in heaven for you.
